YOUTH EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM

 

WHAT IS IT YEP?

The Youth Empowerment Program gives you the training and skills you need to be successful. YEP has been successfully running since its 2004 launch, serving approximately 1,800 youth ages 16-24 in the Oxnard & Port Hueneme areas.

The YEP is designed as a Job Ready Accelerated Program:

  • The goal in the program is to complete at least one of five career paths of your choice:

    • Seeking Employment

    • Seeking Post-Secondary Education

    • Seeking Occupational Skills

    • Seeking High School Diploma or GED

    • Seeking Military Career

  • Each youth is required to attend workshops of work-readiness instruction that teaches:

    • Resume/ Cover Letter Writing

    • Interview Techniques

    • Job Search Skills

    • Job Retention

    • Career Exploration

  • Career days, guest speakers, field trips

  • Opportunities to earn up to $500 in incentives


What additional services are offered? 

  • An Academic & Career Advisor who will mentor you and will develop a plan to help you reach your goals.

  • Paid work experience with local public and private employers. You can have the opportunity to earn work experience. Limited spaces available.  

  • Supportive Services assistance with bus passes, interview clothing, uniforms, exam fees, vocational training and other additional services.

 

Eligibility Guidelines:

  • Youth and young adults, 16-24 years of age

  • Right to work in U.S.

  • Meet low income guidelines

  • Possess certain barriers identified in WIOA regulations

  • Selective Service registration for males ages 18 & older

  • Priority given to public assistance recipients and low income households

  • Migrant and farmworker youth encouraged to apply

 

What do I need to apply?

  • CA ID or passport, Birth certificate, Social Security card

  • Proof of public assistance or household income
