Bryan Arjon was born and spent the early part of his childhood in Oxnard, CA. He attended high school at Adolfo Camarillo High. There he played football for the Scorpions before injuring his ankle towards the end of his freshman year. With athletics aside, Bryan focused more on Education and excelling in his studies. It wasn’t until his sophomore year that Bryan was introduced to the Upward Bound Program by a close friend. The program focused on preparing low-income, first generation students for a successful post secondary education. Upward Bound was comprised of several components, one of which involved High School students attending California Lutheran University in the summer time, living in the freshmen dorms and partaking in a full-time schedule of college courses. As a High School Junior, Bryan decided that CLU was the university he would attend to pursue his Bachelor’s Degree.
While at CLU, Bryan had the opportunity to study abroad two different semesters. The first of the two took place in Washington D.C., where students from different universities took Political Science geared courses at night and held a full time Internship during the day. Internships varied depending on the student’s area of study. As a Communication/ Public Relations student, Bryan worked with Susan Davis International, a prestigious PR firm who works closely with the Department of Defense as well as the Washington Sports Commission. He also spent a semester in Guanajuato City, Mexico where he pursued a Spanish Minor. There he studied Mexican History, Spanish Literature and Spanish Grammar and Conversation, apart from being immersed in the Mexican culture. He graduated from CLU in 2008 with a Bachelors Degree in Communications, Emphasis in Public Relations and a Minor in Spanish.
The similarities and philanthropic efforts of the Boys and Girls Club/ NFTE Program and the Upward Bound Program mirror each other in their specific goals and the youth they pertain to. In working closely with the Boys and Girls Club/ NFTE Program, Bryan hopes to be able to offer resources and guidance to youth looking to improve their future much like his experiences early on. |
